| Hi daddyof3! Welcome. I'm new to the board but I've had success with Atkins in the past. I know what you mean about the menus. I come here and read the posts called "review my menu" and get ideas for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Cause otherwise I have no creativity and will just sit around eating pepperoni for each meal :P |

| Welcome Daddyof3 "I don't feel how I look" was a really good sentence. It hit home I think you (and your wife ?) need to do a bit of meal planning and thinking around eating. Your problem in not eating at odd hours. Hours have nothing to do with it. Your problem is eating at the wrong places and eating the wrong food when you eat. Fast foods and pizza are never going to make you thin. It can only go the opposite way. Do you have the book? It has some suggestions of what to do for meals. There will be some on this board as well. The first thing is to go to the store and shop for real foods (meat, eggs, fish, vegetables) And then to cook them. I eat eggs for breakfast - sometimes with bacon - some times with vegetables. For lunch (this is the meal your wife brings you) You can have a salad (tuna or chicken) But there are many other possibilites too. For supper - endless choice but you have to prepare it yourself most of the time. Grileld or fried meat or fish with a veggie is an easy standard. Good luck. Just ask plenty of questions. We are here to help you and to cheer you on.

| Welcome to the Atkins Board. I hope you will read the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR), it’s the book we follow on this bulletin board. If you haven’t until you can get a copy you’ll find a condensed version at the top of the induction - (Atkins Diet Induction FAQs)(Atkins Diet Induction FAQs)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html. Make sure you drink a minimum of 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), exercise starting today and taking a multi-vitamin. Check all around the board for everything there is to, there is a challenge section with both exercise and non exercise challenges, Rate My Menu for help with your food, journaling – there is something for everyone Make a copy of this list (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)(What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list you shouldn’t be eating it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”). Breakfast: eggs cooked any way you want, over-easy, hard boiled, 3 minute, scrambled, etc. Add some veggies (some colored peppers, green onion, broccoli, whatever you like) and a few pieces of bacon (watch for sugar and nitrates added) - or sausage (again look at ingredients). Or you can have a steak, pork chop, hamburger, salad, anything that sounds good to YOU is what you can eat. Lunch: Again, your choice - fried chicken, shrimp, tuna, whatever type of meat you like - a 1 cup lettuce & vegetable salad. Tuna or egg salad can be wrapped in a lettuce leaf to make a "wrap-like sandwich". Dinner: Look at the recipe sites below for meal ideas -- my husband loves the stuffed green peppers (make with cauliflower in place of the rice), 1 cup of vegetable from the 2nd list, you could also go with a "breakfast" type meal here if you like. This is your choice of what you like to eat. If you get hungry inbetween meals, take some meat and dunk it into some type of "fat" - mayo, butter, ranch dressing (or any dressing with 2 carbs or less per serving), you can also use cream cheese spread on meat and roll it up. The fat will help you feel full longer. Also, make sure you eat something every 6 hours -- that keeps your blood sugar level and keeps you from having cravings. You need to stop all the junk, processed, breaded foods you've been eating -- we eat more whole foods...you can still eat out, just watch gravies, breading, how the meal was prepared (any solutions injected into the meat?). If you go out, check the website for the restaurant and see what they show for nutrition facts for each food they serve - many restaurants have it). McDonalds, get a hamburger (no cheese - it's processed) and order it "low carb" - that's no bun and only mustard for a condiment - and a salad (if you don't take your own dressing use there's sparingly - pour half the dressing into the lid and dunk the salad into the dressing - you'll use less and will have dressing on each bite of salad). It's doable to eat out -- just watch yourself. The recipe sites are helpful for meal planning – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with. http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html (Linda’s) (Never ending induction recipes)(Never ending induction recipes)(Never ending induction recipes)(Never ending induction recipes)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/58513-never-ending-induction-recipes.html (Induction recipes) (Induction Recipe Basics--More recipes added)(Induction Recipe Basics--More recipes added)(Induction Recipe Basics--More recipes added)(Induction Recipe Basics--More recipes added)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/6807-induction-recipe-basics-more-recipes-added.html (Induction Recipe Basics) If you need anything we’re here to help you!! | You can do this. The only thing to be afraid of is NOT TRYING TO CHANGE YOUR CURRENT HABITS. You may not do this perfectly at first but keep trying. Here's a sample menu that my formerly 300 pound son ate. He is a creature of habit and doesnt want to think about food: Breakfast:2-3 eggs, fried or scrambled or with cheese as an omelet and 3 slices bacon Snack: 1/2 cup tuna salad Lunch: salad (he did not stick to the one cup rule, but had 2) and maybe a grilled chicken breast or 2 hotdogs no bun Snack: couple slices pepperoni and 6 olives Dinner: 8 ounces meat-steak, burger, chicken breast, two pork chops, etc a cup of green veggies, and a cup of mixed salad with blue cheese dressing He gave up eating at night and limited sweeteners to 3 per day. He also drank lots of water. Hope this gives you some ideas. |
