Default 2nd time around

Hi

I'm Ciara from Texas. The forum is absolutely amazing.....so much more support and information available than 9 years ago. This is my 2nd time doing Atkins. The program works great if you stick to it. I'm here to have fun while I lose weight, be encouraged as well as encourage others in the journey.

Stats, pics and update posts to come shortly......

Day 1 - October 19th, 2009

Nice to see a lot of second timers lately. Just remember though, while Atkins DOES work, don't do what i did...... that is, after the first successful run, become too overconfident and perhaps even 'reliant' on Atkins, sort of having the mentality "oh well, doesn't matter if i gain back the weight i can just redo induction again blah blah". It sucks! Maintenence is just as important as induction IMO, long term health and feel-greatness is what we're after, after all!

Good luck!

Hi Ciara and welcome. You are right! This IS a supportive and active site and you are right on the money about the program working if you stick with it.

Thank you for the nice welcomes. Yeah I think I got overconfident too the first time that I did it. I did the Induction in Nov. 2000, went from 164 to 146....then OWL dropped to 130/135ish....Then I started thinking I was cute, going to Starbucks and ordering Caramel Frappaccinos and Machiatos a little too much. The weight gradually crept back on but overall my weight stayed under control for about 4 1/2 yrs as long as I monitored the carbs. This time around one thing I know is that carbs are my personal kryptonite.

Default Induction progress - Day 3

Gosh carbs can make the body retain so much water !! I've lost 6 lbs of water weight since Day 1. I feel the energy level starting to pick up. The appetite suppression is starting to kick in but still no ketosis according to the ketostix. That's okay as long as the scale keeps going down

Hi and welcome back to Atkins --

Regardless of what you did before, or what people are doing now, your body is different than anyone so it’s best not to compare - just follow the plan the way it's written. Look around and find what interests you and join in. Check the STAC Second Time Around Club - Atkins Diet for additional support.

I hope you already have the 2002 DANDR book and have read it, it is the edition we follow on this site. If not it's worth a few dollars to purchase. Get enough pure water in daily (64oz is recommended), exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin.

The recipe sites will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- check them out! Don't forget to eat enough vegetables (check the acceptable food list (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)(What foods can be eaten on Induction?)(What foods can be eaten on Induction?)(What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html) - 2 cups from the first list and 1 cup from the 2nd list daily.

Thank you Carole for all of the good info. I read The New Revolution book but I'm not sure of the year of publication. The book is yellow if I remember correctly. The bottomline that I remember is 20 carbs maximum for induction. I am doing an extended induction this time around. My motto now is discipline and consistency, reaching my goals and maintaining them.

Depends what you consider to be the bottom line... but make sure you are only eating foods from the Acceptable Foods List. You cannot eat any food and just not eat more than 20 NET carbs.

And the book you need is Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution (2002). The yellow one is the 1992 edition.

Talking Induction Progress - Day 5

Down 8 lbs. Yes, deviating from the Acceptable Foods List is not an option for me. This time I cut the diet drinks, fake sweeteners and coffee. Lots of water, a few cups of green tea and one cup of licorice tea after dinner is all I drink now. I also am trying to stick to eating mostly fatty fish, eggs, cheese and turkey, beef only once a week with water rich, low carb veggies, mostly green veggies. Fats, I've been sticking with olive oil. I'll get the book before going into OWL.

I had a headache last night but got through it. The ketosis gives so much good, stable energy not like caffeine. I was actually able to get through my Taebo workout with power this morning. Usually I just drag through it.
