That looks like the right book to me.
So how about doing the Atkins diet right by including veggies and then moving up to OWL and adding more carbs. Perhaps that will make you more able to sustain your losses (which for some is the real challenge)
Gift of the squirt. Hah!!!
I do include the veggies; I eat all the induction approved veggies, but I just limit them.

OK... For my main meal, I eat at the Golden Corral every day so for example, today I had:

Chicken Caesar salad:
Grilled chicken breast - 0n/c
Caesar dressing - 1n/c
Blue cheese crumbles - 0.8n/c
Parmesan cheese - 0.6n/c

Veggies:
Green beans - 2.9n/c

Meat:
Sirloin stake - 0n/c

Fish:
Baked white fish
w/ shrimp & Lemon sauce - 6t/c not sure the net carb

Tea:
5 glasses Unsweet Iced - ?n/c

Diet Dr. Pepper:
3 cans (I think) - 0n/c
================================

Total Net carbs - 11.3 -/+

As you can see, I am >20g of carbs for the day. One of my biggest issue I do have is eating only
once a day and that include MR's. I need to force/remind to eat every 2 to 3 hours, lol.

Hi sweetmeats,

I find I have more energy with my veggies when I am working out. I take L-Glutamine as a supplement for muscle recovery and it also works as an appetite depressant, glucosamine for my crummy knees, and fish oil because it is so good in so many ways. I have found chromium piccolinate and CLA don't really help me lose but do seem to help my losses stabilize faster instead on bouncing up and down on the scale. And if I bail they seem to slow down weight gains.

Oh there is no doubt that is I stick with carbs at >20/p/d that I will suffer from a lack of energy, but it all depends on how bad it gets. I am sure that I will utilize some supplements while I train; i will stick with what I know work in that area

Thanks for the welcome

How much WATER do you drink?

Tea has carbs ... about 0.7 net carbs per 8 ounces.

You need to know how many cans of soda you're drinking ... after all there's a limit of 3 sweeteners per day ... and a can of soda is more than one serving most likely.

Also ... I don't believe that the 0 carb items you're eating at Golden Corral are really 0. Have you checked their website for ingredients and nutritional information?

Is there a reason you don't cook for yourself? It's hard not to be in control of what you're eating.

What about your other meals? Breakfast ... lunch ... snacks?

I usually only drink water when I am out doing stuff. I only drink bottled water so when I go out and eat I get the tea because I can't drink tap. I also LOVE Crystal Light.

Tea has that many carbs....DAMN! I HATE anything but bottled water. I worked in Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa... well just been all over the world and you LEARN to ONLY drink bottle water, lol, and now I can't stand anything but.

One of my biggest issues is to eat and drink, lol. If I don't push myself to eat/drink something, or remember to, I just don't. For example, I had NOTHING to eat OR drink today till about 9pm tonight. I just don't get thirsty or hungry so I don't think about it. I literally need to make my self eat. Now eating or drinking something for the first time in the day at 9pm is not on the average, mostly it is around 3pm or 4pm. Like I said, I just don't get hungry or thirsty so I don't think to drink or eat.

So why if I am drinking a diet soda that states '0' Carbs, I can't drink more that 1/4 of one, lol?

The only '0' carbs would be the meat, fish, shrimp and chicken, but yeah, I went to the Golden Corral site to get the Nutritional Info.

As for cooking, it is just easier for me to eat out. I will do some microwaving, but that is it. However, I did eat at home tonight; I had:

10am-9pm - nothing

9pm - Chicken Casaer salad
1 Dr. Pepper

12am - 6 eggs scrambled w/ Miracle Whip & 2 slice American cheese
1 Dr. Pepper

When I do feel like eating, lol, I will try to have 4 or 5 meals with 2 or 3 being a MR. I will snack on boiled eggs, veanna sages, Beef jerky. I also like that 4n/c ice cream.

What would you suggest for snacking?

Thanks for your reply!

>>he only '0' carbs would be the meat, fish, shrimp and chicken,>>

Most commercial chicken is "plumped" with a sugar solution, so it's probably not 0 carbs.

Also, if a meat is seasoned, it has carbs ... since all spices/herbs have carbs. And "seasoning" at a restaurant can mean sugar.

>>with 2 or 3 being a MR>>

What's a MR?

>>veanna sages, Beef jerky. I also like that 4n/c ice cream. >>

Vienna sausages aren't very Atkins friendly ... read the list of ingredients! And ... it's very processed. Same with beef jerky ... high in sodium, contains sugar, and very processed. Ice cream isn't an Induction food and isn't allowed on Induction.

>>2 slice American cheese>>

American cheese is very processed ... you would do better to use a less processed cheese such as cheddar or any other hard cheese.

>>w/ Miracle Whip>>

Not allowed. It's got too much sugar in it. Use mayonnaise ... or cream in scrambled eggs.

>>I also LOVE Crystal Light>>

Remember ... there's a limit of 3 servings of sweetener per day. You exceed that, I'm quite sure.

If you won't drink tap water at a restaurant, why will you drink the iced tea? Take your own bottle of water then. Atkins works really well with water ... CL, tea, and diet sodas are not water.

>>For example, I had NOTHING to eat OR drink today till about 9pm tonight.>>

That's not good for your metabolism. If you've read the book, you know that Dr. Atkins says that we shouldn't go more than 6 waking hours without eating. Also, breakfast is the most important meal of the day ... it's the one that gets your metabolism fired up.

I suspect that your bad eating habits will catch up with you ... it may take some time but they will!

>> What would you suggest for snacking?>>

Anything from the Acceptable Foods for Induction ... and the less processed the better!

Atkinsgal08,

Thanks for the great info! Looks like I need to reevaluate some things. I jusst go to the store and try to find the lowest carb count stuff. So I guess when it says 0 carbs it is not true in all cases?
