| Welcome Kntrylady. I'm a single, "retired" lady, living in a Very remote area (nearest grocery with fresh veggies 45 minute drive), on a ranch that I run and work myself. Wow. Planning goes to a whole new level with that drive. I was doing well on this WOL, and like alot of us, one day woke up and found my self not following this WOE. After much examination of why I left this WOL, I realized that all those little "cheats" , the "just one bite" added up and one day I was completely succumbed to my addiction to carbs again. I am a true carb addict, and like an alcoholic or heroin addict, I CAN'T have just one. I guess that's what the "Triggers" on OWL are all about. I will find out this time. Very true. I am finding out the same things. The JUST ONE BITE is never just one bite. Its like the pebble that starts a landslide for many of us. This time around, I have a strange "calm" about this whole thing. I look at each food I'm thinking about, and ask if I'm going to have any regrets in the morning (Sort of like dating) So far it has worked wonders. Great analogy and consequences just as dire! But old habits die hard. I lost 7 pounds the first 2 weeks, and I'm down 2 more pounds this Week. I'm kicking myself for that moment of "is that all" when I got on the scale this morning. I'm reminding myself that if that was a gain, I'd be so disappointed in myself and degrading myself. So, I'm embracing it as a WIN. which it is ![]() Every single one of us have days when we hate the scale and I sympathize since I lose at a snail's pace (especially now that I am peeking at 50) but its not about the scale. Its about how we feel, how we move, inches lost, our basic nutrition and blood sugar levels. Intellectually we all know this but the numbers can still ruin your morning. (I recently banished my scale to another room just for this reason. He and I are not seeing each other for a month in hopes he will be more reasonable next visit.) Sorry for the long post, but thought I'd share the good and bad of my past and present. You'll see me on this board more often in the winter as the snow comes in and I spend less time outside working the ranch. Of course day light savings is bringing me inside earlier too. Glad you found us! |

| It's great to have you back and so active in the Spotlight area!! I've found if I can see the scales I am more apt to "see how I'm going today" then if I can't see it, so I decided on a weigh day and the other days my scales are on the shelf in my closet. I have to get a step stool to get to them (it's a very high shelf and I'm not tall) so it's not easy to get to them. The other thing I have done is give them to the hubs or my mother (she lives with us) and instruct them NOT to give them to me except on weigh day. You don't give an exact age but say you are retired....if you are in your 50's there is a thread started for us who are a little more mature - out weight loss isn't the same as the Gen X'ers or even the 30 to 40 year olds. We'd love to have you come say hi. Have you joined any of the challenges for November? I've met many great people while on the challenges! Much luck to you -- you sound like you have the resolve to get there this time!
