Default Veteran LCer joining again (long)

Hello

Stumbled onto this site a week or so ago. I noticed many names and faces from a different site (lowcarb.ca). I haven't been there in a while, when I was there, I was listed under LCRobbie.

Anyway...I know just about everything about LC, especially Atkins. I used this WOE to lose over 100 pounds...but like so many before me I relapsed. I had a reconstructive ankle surgery and 3 subsequent injuries that took me out of the gym for months at a time. With that came frustration, extremely poor eating habits, resentment, and obviously...weight gain. I put back 50 or so of those pounds....extremely disappointed.

However, many of my career advancement are past me (also something that came before my health) so doing good there. Injuries are about gone or almost rehabbed completely. I am not pain free but pretty close. I joined LA Fitness (Switching gyms) and have been extremely motivated there. My goal is to get down to a fitness level to play basketball in the pickup leagues there (Spring). I can run a little in spurts, do a good amount of weight training and between 20-30 minutes of cardio 4-5 times a week.

My biggest culprit/issue is my wife and son. While I love them more than anything, resistance is extremely difficult. My son is skinny and seems to be able to eat anything. My wife used to do Atkins with me (before his birth) and lost a good amount of weight too. Now, however, she eats junk, convenient food, and so on. She is back to the old ways before her success. She admittedly knows what to do...just can't do it, can't get there. It is frustrating for me because some times in the past, I would be a lazy eater like her and cave, go off plan. It irritates me a lot. While she isn't doing anything to me or forcing me to eat what she does, I sware it seems she is somewhat happy I deviate.... I know this is for me...but I think of lengthening my life with my son the most. It almost brings me to tears to think I would be gone at an early age when I have the knowledge of LC and a relatively healthy body to exercise (and until now, have ignored them).

So anyway....I started induction 11/1. I am down from 355 to 346 this morning. I already know it is mostly water weight. However, the drop on the scale is great and I will take it anyway I can get it. I am hoping to be in the 330's by Thanksgiving...then 310's by Christmas. Not to say 330 or 310 (could be 338 or 319). I feel empowered when I pass on candy and junk at work...

Last thing (sorry this is so long). For those successful people....how does caffeine affect you? I drink ZERO coffee..hate it. Instead I found Splenda sweetened 4C energy drinks with vitamins and amino acids and 170mg of caffeine. I also drink some diet soda (1 can per day usually). It never affected me before but wondered if it is something to consider dropping as well.

thanks and look forward to new success with you all.

Hi and welcome back to Atkins --

Regardless of what you did before, or what people are doing now, your body is different than anyone so it’s best not to compare - just follow the plan the way it's written. Look around and find what interests you and join in. Check the STAC Second Time Around Club - Atkins Diet for additional support.

I hope you already have the 2002 DANDR book and have read it, it is the edition we follow on this site. If not it's worth a few dollars to purchase. Get enough pure water in daily (64oz is recommended) whatever else you drink make sure you get your water in first....as far as caffeine personally I don't drink anything with it in you won't know for sure if it effects you if you continue to use it during induction - it may be something you give up for awhile and try to add it back later, exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin.

Don't forget to eat enough vegetables (check the acceptable food list (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)(What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html) - 2 cups from the first list and 1 cup from the 2nd list daily. Rules of Induction: (What are the Rules of Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html (What are the Rules of Induction?)

The recipe sites will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- check them out!

Hi Rob and welcome to ADBB. This is a terrific board and you will find lots of support here. There are also a pretty active group of male Atkineers which is something my old board lacked, not sure about yours, but makes it nice for the guys to have a male voice around.

I lift weights so I know how it feels since there usually aren't too many female voices on my muscle and fitness board.

Glad you found us. Looks like you are off to a good solid start.

Warm welcome back to Atkins and nice to have you with us here at ADBB! Kudos to you for hopping back on the wagon.

You never know, your shining example may encourage your wife to take up Atkins again. Sometimes the determination to "just do it" comes when you least expect it.

Post lots and use the board for all it offers. We're all in the same boat and are very happy lend a helping hand if and when one is needed.

thanks everyone.

It is exciting to be committed to this again. even moe exciting to see results on the scale. I started and restarted before with little to moderate success. This time it seems I am more focused.

If anyone is following this thread.....what do you think of this?

I know there are wonderful Atkins friendly desserts...the crustless key lime pie sounds awesome. I used to mix sugar free hershey's chocolate syrup with some heavy cream for a decent mousse.

While I am fine avoiding sweet things now....I am trying to stay focused on avoiding LC approved sweets as well just so I don't have and binges. I am ok with diet root beer as a treat...kinda.

Do you think I should just make some things to have just in case?

Not if you want to get rid of your addiction to sweets.
