| Welcome to ADBB !! I won't lie to you, it will be a little tough for the first few days. But once you get through it, your sugar cravings will go away. Now the "thoughts" will be there, but not the physical cravings. Make sure you follow the book to the "T" , don't cheat, and I think you will be surprised how easy it becomes. It will all depend on your motivation. I just came upon the following link about Gastric Bypass Surgery, it might be worth you reading it. It gives the other side of the story. http://bariatriccommunity.com/MyStory.php Best wishes

| Deb, If you want to succeed on this you need to commit to this as a permanent lifestyle. That's not to say you won't ever have a wide variety of carbs again---you will on maintenance---but high carb things will be occasional forays and it will be the good carbs such as whole grains, fruits, etc. not the junk food and donuts. Breaking the addiction is the focus of Induction--getting away from all those carbs and sweets and eating a high fat, high veggie, low glycemic diet. There are a lot of reasons to try this way of eating--it controls your blood sugar, it would mean you don't need major surgery and the complications that go with it, many folks see vast improvements in their cholesterol and blood pressure (after the first 6 months, that is). But here is the thing. If you aren't committed to doing this without cheating, it will not work. Period. Cheating while on Atkins isn't just about a few extra calories. Cheating on Atkins sometimes leads to some nasty binge eating. It halts ketosis and you regain weight with alarming speed. I can honestly say that my body feels a million times better when I am following low carb. I have found that when I cling to the idea I am somehow deprived because I can't have a cookie or fries of ice cream I cannot commit to this way of eating and consequently bail out. When I am focused on the benefits of Atkins and the fact that this way of eating is a positive for my health, body and body image, I remain on track. If your heart isn't in this, it will be very difficult for you to succeed. Knowing that you have been approved for surgery, that is also a factor that will affect your commitment level. I think that Atkins is the best thing you could do for yourself but you need to think so too. |

| Welcome to the Atkins Board. First of all, like anything it's a little scary at first, bot after you get through a couple days and get into keotsis you'll wonder why you ever wanted that donut and other starchy/sweet foods. Drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water daily, exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin - these 3 things are MANDATORY with Atkins! Don't forget to eat enough vegetables (check the acceptable food list (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)(What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html) - 2 cups from the first list and 1 cup from the 2nd list daily. Rules of Induction: (What are the Rules of Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html (What are the Rules of Induction?) The recipe sites will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- check them out!
