Default Exercised induced hunger vs. calories burned

I am really having second thoughts about trying to ride my bike 6-8 miles per day.

It looks to me like the exercise increases my appetite so I want 500 extra calories the next day, but it only burns 200 calories.

I know exercise is critical to a healthy body, but I am thinking that while biking is great cardio exercise, it is not doing my weight loss program any good. I'm thinking that I should probably stick to walking, gardening, and light weight lifting -- or yoga-like stretches or stability ball work... anything but biking.

Carole, I have already decided that I must leave the biking alone. I will substitute walking whenever possible. We are on our fourth day of rain, so unless it clears up later, I will just have to stick to floor exercises and light weights today.

It breaks my heart because that Route 66 challenge was so important to me.

Jimmy is checking for me on whether the bike riding could really be causing the increase in appetite. It would be nice to have it confirmed so I don't feel like such a wimp!

I found my answer!!!

The secret for me is to walk or bike right before dinner.

The hunger starts in earnest shortly after I exercise, but if I fix dinner right away and eat a good meal, it satisfies me perfectly -- not allowing the hunger to build into an out of control compulsion to eat everything in the house!

I find that when I first start exercising heavily, I do have increased hunger. When I lift weights, I could eat a side of cow. After a few days, it settles down. I am using coconut oil about 30 minutes before intensive exercise to fuel my workout and keep the hunger at bay. It seems to be working. Coconut oil is absorbed directly from the small intestine for almost instant energy.

Heavy duty aerobic always takes my appetite completely away. I have to power walk after lunch or after dinner, or I would never get the meal in.

I'll try the coconut oil before exercising, too!

I use it because it is so healthy and is one of the best fats for quick energy. It's really good for your skin. I use it to get my fat up higher so I can eat more protein without it being turned to glucose and stored as fat.

There are a ton of threads about coconut oil use. Do a search and you can get a lot of opinions and links.

I too take coconut oil before my workouts, and I find that workout out counteracts my "i dont even want to LOOK at food" attitude atkins sometimes gives me, so I can eat enough calories with no trouble now. I had a bad case of no-appitite until i started working out. Now its just all balanced itself out.
