Hey admin! - Emoticon question/suggestion

I know. I've been back for about a minute and already I'm peltin' y'all.

We have an astounding amount of emoticons that just add style and flavor to posts. Being capped at 5 ...well.....it stinks. I'm MUCH more smiley than that

I understand the limits are there to protect the d/l and bandwidth time and is mostly intended for ginormous images, but really, people can just post back to back posts with 10 billion pictures if they want anyway, so the limitations don't really serve that purpose.

I'd like to see the image limititations within posts increased (15+ maybe?). Several of us tend to write books when we post (Okay, maybe it's just me. ), and I like to use the emotes. I know lots of others do too, but we get cut short or have to adjust our writing styles to accomodate the limitations that don't really limit anything other than pics anyway.

If the images are the main issue, couldn't we just encourage users to make more use of the photo gallery and link to it? It would certainly get more traffic to that area and open up the boards a bit.

The other thing is that we have a bajillion emoticons - and that ROCKS. Trying to find what I want in that list is well, a nightmare. If I volunteer to organize and categorize them, would you put them up that way?

I've d/led the entire emote library here and will get busy organizing it. Not too familar with php coding, but I'm sure I can figure out enough to get the job done.

Hey Lauren- Any word on upping those limits?


I'm working on figuring out the easiest way to sort the emotes we have and code them so y'all can just put it up. I'm learning there are problems with the shortcuts on several of them - examples:





Can't do the last two or use the last two because the is set the way it is and it bars us from using anything that starts with : and p - make sense?

Wow, I do agree it is a pain in the @ss to find what you are looking for. Brook, that is so nice of you to offer to do this, I do hope they take you up on it! Thanks!

I'm working on organizing that smiley page.

Could use some php help though as I'm not sure how the coding all works (click on the smiley and it enters it in the post). There are some issues with some of the codes as is- lots of them need to be renamed to make using them more easy - and as I noted above, some don't work because of the way they're set up. I'm wondering if I take the time to sort through the 10 bajillion smilies and categorize them and put them in an HTML file, can someone pop them into a php file easily?
