I am hypo and I was diagnosed with it 4 years ago after my first was born. I was on the verge for years and finally went low so they would fix it. I am on Synthyroid and Cytomel and the combonation is really great and makes me feel well as well. I have done a lot of research and many do not do well on the Synthyroid alone(T4) and do better with a combonation. A lot who have Hyothyroidism have a problem converting T4 inactive form of thyroid to Active T3 form of thyroid and that is why many fee lousy on just the Synthyroid alone. If you feel like your symptoms have not quite improved then you should try the Cytomel or thee natural for of dessicatef thyroid. It is harder to regulate with the dessicted thyroid so I was switched to the combonation of Cytomel and Synthyroid to help me to keep comtrol better.

hi there.

I'm hypo too - non-Hashis and am on thyroxine and Armour thyroid. I was diagnosed in August so am still trying to get my meds optimised.

If anyone wants to know about Armour, please ask.

Is anyone else struggling to lose weight?

Felix x

It is much harder to lose weight. Important to look at things that can potentially slow the metabolsim or cause stalls. I have found that intense exercise is the key. Especially if you can do hard cardio in early am(an repeat some late in the day if time allows.

Default thyroid

I've taken synthroid since 8 years of age. When I was eight I had a tumor removed from my thyroid gland resulting in a partial thyroidectomy.

I'm hypo. I just know my doctor said I was hypo. If it was Hashimotos would he have specified that to me?

Anyways, I was diagnosed almost 3 years ago. But my new doctor suspected I had been hypo for quite awhile before that. He said my last doctor wasn't running all of the tests he should have been. I've been on Synthroid ever since.
My mother is also hypo (on Atkins too), & has been for almost 10 years. My doctor said if it runs in your family, you have a higher rate of getting it as well. Which I did. Thanks mom! haha

Hi Baby,

did you ever have a thyroid anti-bodies test done? Look through your records.

I'm not sure. I just know I go and get my levels tested once a year now. And I dont know what tests they're actually running. I guess I should. I've been pretty stupid about that I guess...

yep if your doc ran all the tests to determine what kind you had before they treated you then they would know and tell you. Those with hasimoto's have a higher rate of developing diabetes too later on.

If your thyroid medication is in the correct level for you you will not have any more trouble with weight loss then any other Atkineer. the problem is the fods and the actual weight loss can mess with your level and as we all know when out thyroid hormoneis low everything slows down from metabolism to thinking. So iff you haven't had your meds rechecked you might want to do that sometime in the early dayd of your atkins if the scales aren't moving.
The endocrine society lowered the threshold level for hypo in 2002 to THS of 3.0 so many borderline folk are now actual cases and don't get treated.

Hypothyroid here (underactive).

Diagnosed over 10 years ago, maybe have had it longer, who knows.

I have been taking Synthroid (or generic brand) for 10+ years.

I gained alot of weight when I stopped taking it due to lack of health insurance/no job. Gained alot of weight during this time too, most of which I have now lost on Atkins.

I also have fibromyalgia.

My body temperature is lower than most (usually around 97.0, but sometimes lower). Thus when I have a fever, it's alot worse than the thermometer typically shows for "normal" people.
