Default Titration and w/loss pauses

Hello everyone,

Just thought I'd get this excellent forum active with a question for you all.

I'm hypo and still titrating my dose. What I have noticed is that when I put my dose up, I lose for a week, then nothing. As I'm increasing every three weeks at the moment it's very frustrating as they is diddly I can do about it.

Has anyone else noticed this? Can anyone explain why this happens please?

Thanks Felix x

I can only assume that it's because your body is reacting to the newer levels of hormones. Then as it adjusts to it, nothing. I know my doctor adjusted mine every 2 weeks at first. I think thats how long it takes for the med doses to adjust your levels for them to know if its high enough. I'm sure someone else has a more accurate answer for ya....

well it is kind of complicated but it is basically what she said
our bodies work on negative feedback loops

T3 low more TSH generated telling thyroid to make more T4 is the basic path.

You are taking T4 in your meds so if you don't have trouble converting them your T3 level goes up and all those body cells that doidn't have enough are finally geting more T3 and start to work.

T3 goes up TSH goes down. now if you were making some natural T4 in response to your TSH stimulating your thyroid then you now have less then the first day you took your new meds cause the natural levle has gone down as the demand from the TSH came down. that is why they are looking ot your blood work before raising your levels. If your final combination of natural T4 and pill T4 being converted to T3 isn't enough for your body then your TSH wil still be elevated and they will give you some more meds until your responding TSH levels are back in the normal range.

How are the rest of your symptoms doing?

oh and once your meds do get lelveled you may or may not see weight loss on a wekly bases. it will depend on your program how hard you areworking it and your bodies metabolism and tolerance for fluids as they play a vital role in removing inches of fat. Use your tape measure to see those inches of fat being shed even when the tapemeasure isn't moving.

Thanks 2 big, I understand that - I think!

My TSH is now suppressed at 0.01 and I'm now working on getting my T3 level up a bit more. But I'm nearly there. Still a bit tired and needing afternoon naps but over than that - SO MUCH BETTER than a couple of weeks ago. I'm managing to go swimming (and actually put some effort in LOL) and get out and about more. And I swear I am feeling better for doing Atkings. And I'm 6 pounds down.....still!

I hope I can actually keep losing - my self confidence took a real bashing since this thryoid thing started and I want to feel good about myself again. I know I will never be skinny and I've opted for a conservative goal weight for now but I would like to get to that goal some day! Bah!

Hope I have some positive results for you all soon,

Felix x

your T3 should be very high, it is the T3 level that shuts off the TSH and yours is shut off if that isn't a typo .o1? looks like you got something else going on. with your TSH that low it is amazing you have any natural T4 at all.

In Hashimoto's I think it is a very good state to be in (having the TSH fully suppressed) - shut down the thryoid, as the body is very good at attacking the natural thyroid hormones. This works for me, because I had a big goiter (3 cm). Now with a TSH of 0.03, and over 2 years, my nodule has shrunk hugely (confirmed by ultrasound). The synthetic hormones I am taking don't seem to be attacked by my body.
