Default Is there any point?

Is there any point to doing atkins while one is adjusting their thyroid medication? If it stalls weight loss, are you still gaining muscle? Will you lose more weight once it is corrected?

YES, it it worth doing Atkins while adjusting your thryoid medication. I have been dealing with thyroid issues for years and am in the midst of the worst 'flake out' of my thyroid yet. BUT, while they are adjusting my meds, I am slowly losing! AND, let me say, the increase in energy I have while doing Atkins and adjusting the med at the same time has been well worth the struggle!!!

Hope this helps!

Hello,

I totally agree with that. Thyroid adjustment can occur at any random time and this is a WOL not a diet so just carry on as normal. Even if you just maintain weight and fitness whilst your body is adapting it is better than crashing off and gaining weight. Also as Heather said, the energy is a real plus and it may be in short supply.

However, do listen to your body - you may not be able to lose as fast as others and most importantly, you might not be able to exercise as much as you have before. When my meds went down this time last year I felt hazy, confused and I couldn't run 2 minutes. I got very frustrated. I did start to feel normal again and now I'm back on track still at the lower dose and have lost all my weight on this level.

Personally I don't know anyone who has lost weight just via a higher dose of thyroxine alone. This diet worked wonders for me when nothing else would though.

Good luck and I hope things work out

You all are right - I was just feeling discouraged. I'm back on track now.

Hey Ragazarossa,

Glad you're feeling ok and back on track. I get a bit down when my meds aren't right - so it can be hard to overcome this and make the right choices. Hope you feel better soon
