Smile New with hyperthyroid...

Hey,

I've been diagnosed with HYPERthyroid and the dr added 3 more meds to the 3 that I'm already taking, & increased mgs to 1 of 3 other meds for my diabetes . I also consume 3 other meds for my arthritis & some vitamins for my immune system among other things.

I feel a little better but I'm having trouble exercising, doing household chores regularly, having trouble eating 5 small meals You could say I'm an Atkins low-carb vegetarian. I'm good, slow weight loss but ok.

I have been doing 4 exercises for my knees in a seated position. That's a start! And I'm doing a couple of exercises for my upper body also in a seated position. When I was ill and hurt my feet falling down a couple of months ago, my whole body was stressed out and weak. So I'm determined to strengthen any part of my body. I know it had a lot to do with carrying extra weight. Then I prayed and asked my friends to pray for me too. I'm working on my patience to get stronger and healthier.

Thanks.

The dr told me to have some on a daily basis, so I'm trying 2 servings/day. I'm good, slow weight loss but ok.
I mean no disrespect, but I'm confused as to why you are in a lowcarb forum seeking advice on whether you'll feel better or not.

Hi Cindy,

Sorry to hear about the medical problems. It is unusual for us to have a hyperthyroid person on here. I always assumed that would make someone underweight (this happened to someone I know), but I it's not always that way.

If you are vegetarian you might find this post interesting. Can I do Atkins as a Vegetarian?

All the best for this WOL

Oh, that sounds awesome! I'm always leary of ready-made protein vegetarian products. I'm going to try the Gardenburger products, esp. the the "burgers". Alexa, thank you so much for the post. Sometimes I get tired of eating bland tofu, egg whites, etc but these products will definitely put more protein in my meals and slow down the weight loss naturally. This past week I lost 6 lbs, scary! I see the dr tomorrow so I hope he has some news about my tests and I still have 1 more test to do on Friday. Thank you!

You are welcome. I hope the Dr has some good news for you.

I would also say is there are particular reason you don't eat egg yolk? It is a great source of fat for Atkins. For me the more fat I eat, the better the WOL works for me.

Yes, I eat egg yolk 3-4/wk, just my dr told me not to eat it every day. I will, once in a while, 1 egg every day for a wk.

My endocrinologist says my symptoms have lessened and improved, I see him again in 2 mos. I see my cardiologist this Thursday to see how my Nuclear Stress Test and Heart Rate Monitor results are. I want to be able to do more than 15 min of exercising and do outside yard work besides doing chores inside the house. Even though it's so hot here in Arizona, I still like the sun rays on my skin. I understand you live in UK, that's got to be a lot cooler there than here, huh? Awesome!

Thanks, oops that's double.

Hi - that's great news from the endocrinologist. Hope the cardiologist has something good to say too

Man, I would struggle with not eating the yolks - best bit! I eat at least 12 a week.

It is hot for here at the moment, around 26 degrees. Prob not as hot as Arizona though!

Good news! I went to see my cardiologist & she said my tests were 60% better than 50% that normal people have. I suppose that's good & I'm happy.

I've been able to walk on the treadmill for 30 minutes, 3Xs/week. I want to do it every day because 1 of the meds my endocrinologist gave me makes my ankles swollen. This week I'm going for 4Xs/week, then add a day every week or other week. I noticed that my ankles don't swell when I walk or some type of exercise that keeps my blood circulating through my whole body.

Well, I just wanted to let you know what my drs tell me. I'm able to do some other physical activities around the house. Thanks so much for your support and encouragement. I will continue to find encouragement in this website, I think it's pretty awesome that there are some good people here.
