I am on the generic form of synthroid and i was tested but htey said that it was high- and that is all i know- from seeing others post here i t seems like there should be more then 1 test so what test specifically do i need to ask for? and also the same question goes for my insulin- they say its high, but thats all i know ?

Hi there,

Hope you are feeling ok despite all this.

As far as the thyroid tests go, you need a Free T3 and Free T4 test. The Free T4 will measure the amount of T4 you have in your body but you need the Free T3 to determine whether your body is converting the T4 to a usable form.

I can't help with the insulin test much but most people have a glucose tolerance test I think. Maybe someone else can jump in here.

Let us know how you get on.

Felix x

high insulin can be from being insulin resistant or too much medication if you are a diabetic taking meds. if you went on a bender before your test you will test out high too.

from what you posted it is hard to tell what is too high your meds or your TSH level in your blood so I'll just give you both answers

What they are saying is they have your amount of synthroid too high based on your TSH levels being low and need to lower your meds as hyper is just as dangerous as hypo. you could have effected the tests by not keepingthe levels of goitrogen foods in your diet constant.
or they are saying your synthroid is too low as your TSH level is high and you need more medication. that should asssit your weight loss your metal thinking and other hypo symptoms.

Take your food diary with you and discuss it with your doc. If your med level was too high then you should be losing weigh easily.

the other thing is you could have a medical condition effecting both what did your doc say? Does he have any follow up tests scheduled?

Thanks for the repies
i guess i didnt make my self very clear my thyroid is underactive that is what the tests have shown but my doctor is not one to relaly talk to her patients and there is not another one that i can go to with my work schedule and insurance. so i guess im basically wanting to know wheather or not i need my meds, for underactive thyroid, and aslo for high insulin

did they give you a med for your high insulin?

We need to take our thyroid meds for life as without it you will eventually go into a coma and die it is just a slow process is all.

You will need to be retested annually to see if your levels have changed and your meds need changing as a result of those changes. once your meds are changed you will need to be tested more often as your doctor titrated your med level to the correct dose for you. Once your doc finds it you can again go back to annual testing unless you have symptoms sooner.

Happy low carbing.

How did your doc decide your insulin was too high was your blood sugar too low?
