Re: Hyperthyroid and Medicines | | | Sarah, I have Graves disease and used to take Neo-Mercazole, along with beta blocker. That made me pick up about 40 pounds. I had a partial thyroidectomy, and then the weight really piled on no matter what I did. It's under control now, and my thyroid is normal without meds. If your thyroid is completely out of control and hyper, you stand the risk to develop heart problems which is sooooo not worth it. Have it checked and get it under control. If you think about what you stand to loose if you don't take the meds, you'll soon start remembering to do so. I felt wonderful eating everything I saw, and still lost weight when I was hyper. But the feeling of being on edge and your heart beating at 160 - 190 bpm resting, I don't miss that one little bit. And the trembling, o my goodness, I felt like an old woman. I've been on Atkins for a month now, and take CLA ( Conjugated Linoleic Acid ). Talk to your doctor about taking it along with your meds to control weight. Atkins has done wonders for me so far, and I know it will for you too. Hope I could help.. | |
