Default Multivitamins and Nausea

Hi,
I've been taking a multivitamin for a while now and I've found that if I don't take it with food, I get extremely nauseated. Before I started Atkins I would usually take them with some kind of bread because that seemed prevent the nausea but now that 'm not eating bread anymore I find that I get nauseated even if I take them with Atkins-friendly food. Does anyone else have this problem and are there any particular brands that are better than others about this? Thank you.

Im not too sure about the different brands but I am taking a Jamieson Vita Slim but I am finding the same thing. I have been taking it at bedtime instead and that seems to really help and not effect me, you could give that a try! Best wishes.

Default Re: Multivitamins and Nausea

There are some common vitamins and minerals that tend to make folks feel nauseated. These include iron, zinc, and other minerals as well as some vitamins such as C. To help with the nausea, it helps to take your supplements after eating a meal, especially a fatty one. Since you're on Atkins, this shouldn't be a problems unless your fat intake isn't high enough. The fats coat the stomach for awhile helping to protect it from the increase in stomach acids from trying to digest the mineral supplements. If you take fish oil or flaxseed oil supplements, take those first as well. Then take your other supplements a bit later and that should help with the nausea.

Also take your supplements with plenty of water. You may also wish to try different brands. Some manufacturers have a gel coating on their pills, and this helps with dealing with nausea as well.

Best of luck to you!

Thanks for the info. I've been taking them with fish oil but with my food. I will try taking them after I'm done eating instead.

I did some research online and a lot of people had good things to say about Rainbow Light Women's One Multivitamin:
Products
I ordered some from vitacost and will let you guys know how they are. Most of the reviews I've read are from people that have the same problem with nausea and they all say that they didn't even have to take these with food.

How is it going with the new vitamin? Hope you are adjusting smoothly, the vitamins are great once you see the benifits! Best wishes, Leslie

I have some friends that take it & they seem to really like it. For some, it's pricey, but is well worth it if it keeps you on your supplement schedule. Which version did you order?

Yes! If I take multivitamins on an empty stomach I get nauseous and that feeling takes a while to subside. So I take it with lunch and that seems to help.

Default Re: Multivitamins and Nausea

i've had to play around with a few different multi's because of the nausea thing. like pp's have said, i've realized i just need to take it literally with or right after i've eaten, otherwise that nauseous feeling starts creeping in.
