Question Newbie vitamin list

I have researched everything, read all the stickies and I've started the induction phase of my diet yesterday and need to know if the vitamins I'm going to buy are correct, not just because of this diet but to help me feel better generally. I hardly have any energy and because of my agoraphobia and my size don't get much exercise. I find that when I eat something I get quite sleepy and would like something to help with this.

I'm not sure if this is important to know but I intend to stick to the induction phase for the foreseeable future as I have over 140lbs to lose.

I was going to purchase:

Flaxseed Oil (Linseed Oil) 1000mg capsules (3 times a day)

L-Glutamine tablets 500mg (1 a day) My immune system is terrible I catch any cold going. I understand it also helps with the exercises which I need seeing as the only exercise I get is when I'm cleaning my house or dancing around like a fool for a bit when I'm listening to my ipod. I intend to start slowly as I'm not very fit.

Vitamin B12 25ug? (1 a day)

Vitamin 100 B-Complex (1 a day)

Evening Primrose Oil (2 a day) For my womens stuff!

So is this okay to start with or am I missing something?

I must admit when I read the stickies in this forum about vitamins my attitude was "What good can a pill be" but it's been very interesting reading and I'm quite excited about this. I really feel like this is a new beginning for me.

Much thanks to Biogeek I'd of been lost without you.

Ugh! I was almost done writing a long post and it disappeared!!!! Boo!!! Well, let's hope I can remember everything I wrote earlier. *sigh*

First of all, I highly recommend Dr. Atkins' Vita-Nutrient Solution book. You can see if your library has it or just order it on-line (then you don't have to go out & about). It's relatively inexpensive, but is worth more than it's weight in gold as it is full of great information. Atkins writes in a down-to-earth way and describes the various nutrients and what they do for us. Toward the end of the book, he gives "recipes" of supplements that may help with various aliments. For example, for immunity issues, he recommends 20-40 grams/day of L-glutamine among other nutrients.

Your purchase list...

Flaxseed oil--very good! Love it! Good amounts
L-glutamine--good! You can start with that amount & increase if you think you need it.
Vit B 12 and B-complex--Can't go wrong with B! 25ug is somewhat low, but you may have enough of it from your B-complex. Read the label carefully.
EPO--lookin' good!

Do you have a good multivitamin? If not, look for one without iron such as those made for seniors. Don't worry, you can take those as you don't have to be a senior to take it.

Also, you may have read this from my other threads, but I'll repeat it here, too....keep a food/health journal. Write down everything you put into your mouth: food, drinks, supplements. Write down the amount, calories, fat/protein/carbs. You can even keep track of this on FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal as they will also do all the calculations for you. Note also how much sleep you get and how you feel. Over time, you can then spot things that may be the culprit of stalls in weight loss or affecting mood and so forth. I find it very handy. Also, as you're trying new supplements, you may find that some have made some positive effects and others you can't tell a thing. Sometimes it takes a few weeks to for something to kick in while others may take a month or more. Sad, but true. With some nutrients, if we're really deficient, it takes awhile for our bodies to build our stores back up, so patience may be necessary.

Please let me know if you have further questions. You may either post here in this forum or just send me a PM. I'll answer as soon as I can. No one should be lost, but I'm glad I was able to help out.

Take care!!

Thank you very much, great advice, (sorry you lost your first post). I'm going to purchase the vitamins in the morning and look for a multivitamin without iron.

The Dr. Atkins' Vita-Nutrient Solution book sounds very interesting, I've never heard of it and it indeed sounds like something that will come in very useful.

I've been keeping a FitDay diary
FitDay Free Calorie Counter and Diet Journal:*Public Journal and finally got my head around it.

Thanks again I wish I'd of done this sooner.

I've been looking on the internet for something like this and couldn't find a suitable one. This one fits me perfectly, good reviews and starts off at a steady pace. Cheers!

Gosh, you guys on here are great, I can feel the love.

Fitday is pretty handy. You just have to keep it updated.

Hope you find all the supplements you want and the exercise tapes. If you're hesitant to purchase exercise videos, many libraries have them for check-out or video rental stores, too. You can then try before you buy.

Good luck!!!
