Default what causes the nausea?

i'm having trouble finding a good multi that doesn't make me sick. i've tried a few different brands hoping that would help but ehh i just get so nauseous. which vitamin/mineral generally causes this? i feel like it is generally cheaper to find a multi but i've been taking seperate ones instead.

I have the same problem and my way around it is to have the supplements right before going to bed. Then I can sleep through everything and I'm a happy gal in the morning.

What also worked for me was to take them during a meal or a few minutes before/after eating. They are absorbed easier that way. An exception for this, if I remember correctly, are vitamin B12 and folic acid, which should be taken on an empty stomach. Now, my multivitamins have both of these, so when I used to take them with my meals I just ignored the "empty stomach" advice.

Imagine that you're doing great, losing weight, feeling better than ever, thrilled with yourself, hearing compliments from friends and acquaintances---and then it happens! Despite all your good intentions, you're mightily tempted by a food you're not supposed to have. What to do? I'll tell you this: You'd better have a strategy ready!"

Default Re: what causes the nausea?

There are many common culprits with nausea & supplements. The most common are iron, calcium, and vit c. However, it is often the fillers that manufacturers use that are the main causes of nausea. Some vitamins have microcystalline cellulose & xantham gum, which are common binders, and that can make you feel queasy, too. Fillers include yeast and whey, which can also cause some bloating in addition to nausea; sorbitol, which can also cause a variety of GI upset; and some companies use carbopol, which is an acrylic resin (bleh!) and obviously, our bodies would have a difficulty in attempting to digest that, so it, too, causes nausea.

Definately take your multivitamin with food or right after eating. That should greatly help with the nausea. It is true that some vitamins, such as vit Bs, are better absorbed on an empty stomach, but let's face it...if you're going to feel sick by your multivitamin, you'll eventually stop taking it. Other vitamins are best absorbed if taken with food....go figure! In any event, try taking them with food and not with any other medications.

Georgiana, I can't take mine right before bed....the nausea would keep me up! How on earth do you do that? LOL

hmm i guess i will keep looking for one that better suits me and to also just choke it down with food. the ones i've tried in the past are all yeast/gluten free. gross-all of those fillers freak me out.

Believe me, there are many other fillers and binders that can be used. *shudders* Good luck on your search for a good one that doesn't make you sick. And yes, take with food.
