Hiyas Zarabelle! Just on your list, Atkins would say "no." He was a major proponent of supplements and believed that they were just as important as exercise and diet. Your current schedule looks just fine. How much of that cod liver oil do you take? It certainly contains omega 3 and vit a, among other things, but you certainly don't want to overdo the vitamin a. Does your multi-vitamin contain vit a? If so, how much does it have? You're taking that twice a day, so I'm assuming that's the dose listed on the bottle? Please let me know if you have other questions.

The National Academy of Sciences set the "tolerable upper intake levels" for vitamin A to be 3,000 mcg (or 10,000 IU) for adults (19 years of age or older). This decision was made in 2000. I don't know what other foods you eat which may or may not be high in vitamin A, so if you're not already keeping a food diary, perhaps at least noting how much vit A is in your food is warranted. Also, some people use vitamin A compounds for skin conditions, and that should be taken into account. Normally, vitamin A toxicity occurs after months and months of daily intake of 25,000 IU (this is for adults...for children, it is much lower). Obviously, you don't want to go anywhere near this number unless you're under the supervision of a physician. Hope that helps!

I looked on fitday and I get 26% of vit a on average per day. It wouldn't give me an IU figure. I think I will stop the cod liver oil and just take it for a few days if I get cold symptoms. Thanks very much for your help xx

Years ago I use to take 250,000 units of A because in those days that's what was recommended. I think your fine. Just don't eat any walrus liver as I heard that had toxic amounts
