  • ketosis but no loss

    Hello,
I was wondering if anyone has had this experience. I have been in kitosis (moderate to large range) since I started Atkins. This week I have seen a bit of an increase in my weight. I have not lost any inches since my second week. Is this normal? Can you be in Ketosis yet not loose weight or inches? My diet has remained consistent. I will be moving up to the veggie rung next week. I was just wondering if anyone else has this happen.
    Thanks so much!

Are you drinking anything alcohol related? I did at one stage and the weight stayed - infact went up a few pounds after a few months, but not by much.
I was in heavy ketosis but didnt lose any weight at all!

      Hello Freddy,
I have completely stayed away from alcohol. I have been following the induction diet quite rigidly.
Thank you for the quick reply though. I love this forum. It really has motivated me to keep at it and the wealth of experience and knowledge has really kept me on top of this WOE.

Since I began Atkins in July, I have been in steady moderate to high ketosis--but have gone a couple of weeks before losing a pound. I am not sure why this is, but for me, I did lose inches--are you sure you haven't lost any inches yet?

your body lets out ketones from 3 sources, the fat from your body, the fat in the food you eat, and alcohol. Check and make sure that you aren't getting stalled by hidden carbs like sweetners and heavy cream that say 0 carbs but actually have slightly less than 1 per packet/tablespoon.

            Hello Write2thepoint,
I have measured myself once a week and I have not seen a change after the second week. I plan to measure again tomorrow morning, maybe there's a difference. It's reassuring to know that I am not alone in this experience. Thanks for the reply!

              Hello Determined2shrink,
Thank you for your suggestion, I will double check the cream and sweeteners.
Can you be in Ketosis because you are consuming fat? It is still such a mystery to me!
              Thanks again!

Hi youcandoit, been doing this WOL for 6 months or so. Lose about a pound a week. Could be more but i am happy with that. I know pretty much what to eat and what not to eat. Last week i gained 3 lbs. Really hurt but when i thought back i knew what it was. Eventually you will get to a point, you will know what you did different if you watch what you DO and EAT. For me, it was less exercise last week. Hope this helps.

                  Thank you fat4now,
I guess I am just still really new to this WOE and will eventually pick up on what I am doing wrong. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I agree go over everything with a fine tooth comb to see what might be the trigger. Let someone look over your diet menu and maybe we can see something you don't. I know that has worked for others. Are you getting enough to eat that is another possible thing.

Keep plugging along. Maybe the wooshie fairy will bless you soon.

<moderate to high> I am guessing that you say this because you use the sticks? They are not 100% reliable just so you know. Any change in color means you are in ketosis. Darker is not always better and can be indicative of not drinking enough water. So the goal is not to get it dark.

If you are exercising or just started your body will hang onto a some water to help repair the tissue. If you have been exercising hard you could be losing fat but building muscle and that weighs more.

I agree...go through your menu with a fine tooth comb. Enter it into www.fitday.com and see if you are eating at or around your BMR and that your percentages are close to 5%carb/65%fat/30%protein.

I also really think that weeks 3-5 are the hardest as far as losses go. It happened to me and I see it over and over on this board. I think your body does a lot of adjusting in that period of time and it could be holding on to water or fat but if you stick with it the weight loss does pick up again. Even though I didnt lose much during weeks 3-5 I did lose inches and then whoosh, big loss. I have averaged 10+ pounds of loss a month so far but I was really frustrated during those weeks where I felt like I was doing everything right and still not losing. Hang in there, your body will work it out You are doing great!

If you are in ketosis, you are burning fat cells. No one can measure how many, but you are burning them. Can't not happen! Hang in there, and focus on other positive effects you are experiencing. How is your energy? Feeling clearheaded? Skin good? Mine is always lovely doing Atkins, and I am much more mentally focused than when eating sugar!

Hi Elsie, Yeah, I do use the sticks and no matter how much water I drink the color is in the dark range. Currently, I am drinking at least 100 ounces per day and it still shows up moderate to dark. I do exercise, so who knows! I think my body is weird.

Hi youcandoit. I am having the same problem as you so you are not alone. I lost 8 lbs. the first 14 days but the scale hasn't budged in days. Since I am in moderate ketosis and still have no cravings I am going to remain patient. Like Shaunawa wrote earlier maybe we will get a visit from the whoosh fairy soon.
