  • Nutrition Label Accuracy

Hi, I'm still rather new on all this and I have a question. Carb counts seem to vary widely. If the item has a FDA label on it, is it safe to assume that the carb count is accurate?
For example: Macadamia Nuts. On the Atkins site it lists them as having around 5 net carbs for 12 nuts. However, the bag of nuts that I buy says that 1/4 cup has 4 carbs and 3 grams of fiber, which to my understanding would be 1 net carb. I also counted out nuts (several times) in a 1/4 cup and it came to 18 nuts. What gives?
Of course I really hope that the FDA label is right, but I'd hate to be screwing myself over with this.
    Can anyone help?

I never used the Atkins website for counting carbs. Usually I trust the label.

But to help you with this, on Fitday it says that 11 whole macadamia nuts (roasted) have 3.6 g of carbs, out of which 2.3 g are fiber.

And on a similar website, NutritionData, it's similar: 3.8 g of carbs, with 2.3 g of fiber.

The FDA can round up or down as well. So if it was 4.4 grams of carbs they can round down to 4. This is especially sneaky for when they say 0 carbs when actually they are in there.

and for anyone adding nuts in OWL - remember that for most of them the OWL addition maximum is one ounce, no matter what the carb count is (cashews are 1/2 ounce only).
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
