  • Someone said add more vegetables...I gained

And I added celery and onions, or the allowed amt of salad and it has caused me to stall.

Infact I gained 2 lbs. So I think I am going to go back to keeping my carbs limited to the allowed dairy, no lettuce, no celery because I felt better with just a few mushrooms and tomatoes.

Years ago, I know my dad did Atkins and it advised against lots of vegetables during the first two weeks.

So I am going to stick with that, this is now really frustrating and I refuse to let this beat me.

What else did you eat? Your gain may have absolutely nothing to do with the veggies. It probably has a lot more to do with sodium and water retention? What meats or cheeses did you eat? Any processed stuff? Also during Induction it is not uncommon for your weight to swing a bit wildly--a couple of pounds is common. Itr is where you are at the end of the entire two weeks that matters.

Heya...well I eat a very low sodium and hard cheses...no cheese slices or anything like that. I have to eat low sodium. I don't eat red meat, so it's just been grilled fish, bacon, turkey, eggs, I don't add any seasoning except this Mrs. Dash which is sans sugar and two turns on the pepper grinder.

I'm a bit confused... Less than 20 hours ago, you posted that you've lost 9 lbs in 7 days: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ml#post1074763
So, you've gained 2 lbs since yesterday, right? There is no way in the world you can gain 2 lbs of fat in one day from eating celery, onions and whatever other vegetables. And one day of not losing weight is not a stall either---a stall is defined as four consecutive weeks without any weight loss or loss of inches. What the scale is showing you is a completely normal fluctuation. You either consumed a lot of sodium, or your TOM is coming up, or something... but it is simply impossible to gain 2 lbs of fat in a matter of hours.

Years ago, I know my dad did Atkins and it advised against lots of vegetables during the first two weeks.
Your dad probably did Atkins following one of the previous editions of the book. But from 1972/1992 until 2002, Dr. Atkins learned a few more things and improved his diet.

I'd say keep eating those veggies and stay away from the scale for at least a week. You're overanalyzing every normal weight fluctuation and it's not doing you any good.

It's just I don't normally fluctuate like that, and it normally goes away over night and this hasn't. I don't worry about it or consider it a gain, ever. This bugs me because it's stuck with me.

I'm not freaking about it! I't just irritating, because it's ONLY since I added the extra veggies.

Re: Someone said add more vegetables...I gained

OK well then that's not likely it. But before you give up on the other veggies, I would chill and wait out the two weeks. Chances are it is just an Induction blip while your body figures things out.

The version of Atkins your dad did is no longer the rule. This site uses the last version developed by Dr A. himself and HE advocated more veggies.

You have been on Induction for less than a week. I would expect some seesawing. A stall is four weeks of NO loss and NO loss of inches. You will definitely see some daily ups and downs of as much as five pounds, especially early in the WOE, so you may want to stay off the scale in between weekly weighings. IF at the end of the week you are up, then you may need to tweak things, but don't sweat the day to day swings. One of the things that happens to many folks is that they assume every blip on the scale is due to something they did and that often isn't the case. Weight loss isn't linear. Often the scale goes up or down for no apparent reason and when we attribute every change to a food or action, we sometimes cheat ourselves out of things we could be eating and assume they are causing the problem. Patience and watching to see if a pattern develops over repeated use is a much more beneficial way to discover your food triggers, so don't give up on those veggies yet.

PS- how much pure water are you drinking? That also is a factor. The more, the better.

Your only meat is bacon and canned turkey (I think that's what turkey chunks are)? Turkey chunks from Trader Joe's have 460 mg of sodium in 1/2 cup. Bacon has about 250-300 mg of sodium per 2 slices, so you have 750-900 mg of Na in 6 slices. Then cream cheese has another 150 mg in 2 tbsp. Plus about 200 mg coming from the other cheeses. So that's 1800-2000 mg of sodium. If you are sensitive to it, you can easily retain a few lbs of water from 2 g.

Then do not consider "tweaking" the rules, thinking the veggies make you gain weight. Water retention from too much bacon and canned turkey is more likely to have caused you the gain.

As Jill suggested, drinking more water will help you get rid of the retained water.

                  Good luck!

No...turkey chunks are breasts of no hormone raised turkey breast....that I grill and cut up into chunks. The bacon, is no sodium added fresh bacon form the butcher here (I actually get that because it turns out cheaper that "store bought" treated bacon. So no sugar in it.

I drink 6 16 ounce bottles of water per day usually yesterday I think I only had 5.

                    It's just a bit maddening.

cut down on the cheese and use fitday to make sure your percents are right. you cannot expect or get upset by fluctuations that start around week 2. the initial water weight loss dehydrates you, and after about a week your water retention goes back to normal. this, coupled with how much fat youve lost can look like a stop in loss or a gain. any day after that that you dont drink enough water can cause a 'gain' too, but -this is not fat-. that number on the scale doesnt know everything, just do what youre supposed to do, then actually give it time to do it! my second week i gained4-5lbs out of nowhere and didnt lose it again for over 2 weeks (thats why my siggy has my first goal hit twice). aka, its normal.

Oh, I see. Then your sodium must be lower than that.

I'd say give it a few more days before changing anything.

These ladies know thier stuff, stick with it. I went 5 weeks without seeing the scale move and kept reading advice that they were giving other people. Even though the scale wasn't moving where I wanted it to my clothes continued to fit better and just like they said it finally did start to drop again.
